Safe Matrimony & Fraud Prevention Guide
Essential safety guidelines and background verification recommendations for users and families
Rule #1: NEVER Send Money to Anyone on the Platform
Under no circumstances should you ever transfer funds, lend money, give loans, pay courier/customs clearance fees for gifts, or share your bank account, credit card, UPI PIN, or OTPs with any candidate or their relatives.
A genuine matrimonial match will NEVER demand money from you before marriage. Any request for money is a 100% sign of FRAUD.
1 Common Matrimonial Frauds & How to Spot Them
The Customs / Airport Parcel Scam
The fraudster claims to be an NRI, merchant navy officer, or foreign national who has sent expensive jewelry, phones, or cash as an engagement gift. Shortly after, a fake "customs official" calls demanding payment of clearance fees or anti-money laundering fees.
Action: Never pay customs fees for parcels sent by strangers. Indian Customs never asks for personal account transfers.
The Medical / Emergency Sob Story
After establishing emotional rapport over chat/calls for a few weeks, the fraudster invents a sudden crisis (e.g. mother in hospital ICU, bank account frozen while traveling, accident) and asks for urgent financial help.
Action: Never send money. Real prospective partners do not seek emergency funds from matrimonial matches.
False Employment & Identity Fraud
Posing as high-ranking government officials, IAS/IPS officers, software architects with astronomical salaries, or wealthy businessmen using stolen photos from Instagram or LinkedIn.
Action: Verify office email address, salary slips, and professional credentials through independent sources.
The "Camera Broken" Video Call Refusal
The person eagerly chats or talks on voice calls, but consistently makes excuses to avoid video calling or meeting in person (e.g. poor network, camera broken, secret defense project).
Action: Insist on live video calls early in the communication. If they refuse repeatedly, report the profile.
2 Golden Rules for Safe Matrimony
-
Involve Your Parents and Family Members: Always keep your parents, guardians, or elders informed about your interactions. Share profile details with trusted relatives before meeting.
-
Always Meet in Safe Public Places: When meeting a prospective match for the first time, choose crowded, well-lit public places such as cafes, restaurants, or hotels. Never agree to meet at isolated locations or private residences alone.
-
Conduct Independent Background Verification: Always verify educational credentials, workplace identity, residence proof, and marital background before any formal engagement or marriage ceremony.
-
Protect Your Confidential Data: Never share sensitive financial details, bank statements, OTPs, or intimate photographs. Remember that sharing intimate images online carries severe risks of blackmail or extortion.
3 How to Report Suspicious Accounts
If you encounter any profile that exhibits suspicious behavior, asks for money, uses abusive language, or has fake photos, you must take immediate action:
